Legends PGA National

September 30th, 2011

One of the fine, more intimate neighborhoods in PGA is the 78 villas of Legends PGA National condos.  Slightly larger than other villas at between 2,000 and 2,200 square feet, these homes offer Mediterranean styled architecture with vaulted ceilings and sunburst windows offering either lake views or views of The Champion golf course.  In addition, the Legends has tiered fountains and a lakeside community pool with cabana for the resident’s pleasure.

PGA National is a carefully planned development of 2,340 acres with 800 of them set aside for green spaces including five golf courses, parks and playgrounds, hiking paths and cycling trails.  240 additional acres were set aside on the western side of the development for a natural preserve with a wooden viewing pavilion for observing wildlife which includes native wading birds, hawks and owls and possibly an otter or deer.

PGA provides quick access to cultural locations of downtown West Palm Beach like the Kravis Center and the airport to the south or Jupiter to the north and the shopping and dining district of Palm Beach Gardens along the PGA Boulevard corridor.  Many other fine clubs like BallenIsles and Mirasol are close by too so you will no doubt have friends at these clubs.

The heart of PGA National is the complex of five champion caliper golf courses which wind through the neighborhoods and make up the backbone of the development.  When the PGA Tour swings through south Florida early in the year, it makes a stop here in March to play the Honda Classic on “The Champion” course with its famous “Bear Trap”.

Although PGA is home to the PGA of America, it is also home to the famous PGA National Resort & Spa.  Inside the Resort you will find hotel rooms, fine dining, an Olympic size pool, as well as luxurious spa amenities and treatments.  The Resort lifestyle continues outside where 18 tennis courts, indoor racquetball courts and croquet court await you.  It is a great place for your guests as well.

5 Rabbits Run | Marlwood Estates at PGA National

April 7th, 2011

Approaching the 1-acre 5 Rabbits Run house with its sloping Mexican tile roof, antique Chicago brick circular drive and exotic dense landscaping, you are filled with a sense of anticipation as to what lies inside. Opening the massive front doors reveals a home steeped in tradition, an ode to two great architects, Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Meis van der Rode.

Wright, whose prairie-style architecture culminated in his supreme home in Pennsylvania, ‘Falling Water’, can be seen as one walks through the structure, his trademark stone and wainscot paneling, his geometric rectangular windows and inviting bathrooms.

Meis, whose glass-clad architectural style complements Wright, brings the outdoor landscaping and foliage intimately inside and the two styles become greater than the sum of their parts.
Unexpected in south Florida, where Addison Mizner’s Mediterranean architectural influence can be seen at every street corner, this tropically-styled retreat is an oasis for the professional couple who had this architectural masterpiece built.

The very large screened pool/entertainment area was tropically landscaped by the leading landscape architect, Keith Weiland, and can be accessed from the 3 largest rooms in the house, the open great room, which houses the spacious kitchen and recreation area with its stone fireplace, the living room with its award-winning stone work done by master craftsman Jacko Carballo, and the eclectic master bedroom with its Asian influence and a 3rd fireplace and sitting area. The outdoor stone-clad cooking area is perfect for a family style BBQ or entertaining friends.

The master bath and shower, together with the steam room, provide the ultimate in luxury. The shower itself, with 3 adjustable heads and 9 control knobs, is an engineer’s delight. Adjacent to the master is both an office and a massive exercise room with floor-to-ceiling windows and more beautiful landscaping.

The 6 bedrooms and 7 baths sprawl over 1 acre, with room for both children, grandchildren and dogs to play. A 4-car garage and carpenter’s work area gives the handyman of the house space to tinker and his wife an art studio to fashion her best work.

The two wings of the house, designed in the swept-back shape of a bird in flight, meet at the center of the nearly olympic-sized pool, with the center of the house the living area, the left wing the adult area, and the right wing the children’s.

All in all, this is a dream home!

Tequesta resident Steve Marino ties for 4th at Pebble Beach

February 14th, 2011

Tequesta riverfront homes are drawing PGA National Tour pros because of the scenic location on the Loxahatchee River with direct ocean access in less than 10 minutes and because Tequesta real estate is some of the finest in the northern Palm Beach County area. Although the PGA Tour pros have recently discovered the area, other notables like Joe Namath and John C. Maxwell have already discovered the area and have purchased homes here.

Riverfront homes can be found along the North Fork of the Loxahatchee River which winds through Tequesta, on the Anchorage Point peninsula, and all along the Northwest Fork extending up to the Islands of Jupiter. More homes can be found along the western side of the river which is where Rickie Fowler just purchased.

From the western shore the view is straight out the Jupiter Inlet to the ocean and homes here have docks extending into the river with lifts so that when you return from a day of fishing, you just lift the boat out of the water and head into the house. Some of the homes have infinity pools with these waterfront views. The combination is simply incredible.

Our current list of PGA Tour pros who live in Tequesta include, in addition to Rickie Fowler, Steve Marino, who tied for fourth at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Mark Calcavecchia, who lives across the street from the Honda Classic at Mirasol, and the defending champion of The Honda Classic, Camilo Villegas. The Honda Classic will be held in a couple of weeks about 8 miles south of Tequesta in Palm Beach Gardens at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. PGA National Resort & Spa has 5 golf courses and “The Champion” is the course they use for the tournament.
