Jupiter Inlet Colony
The main community of Jupiter Inlet Beach Colony sits in between the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Jupiter Inlet. All homes in Jupiter Inlet Colony are a short walk to the beach and some sit directly on the ocean, Intracoastal or the Jupiter Inlet.
If you are looking for one of the nicest communities in South Florida, look no further than this town. Jupiter Inlet Colony has it all.
To the south visitors will find the City of Jupiter and to the north is the City of Tequesta. Jupiter Inlet Colony is a peaceful, residential community spanning just .2 square miles. This coastal town is surrounded by the Intracoastal Waterway, the Atlantic Ocean, and the narrow Jupiter Inlet. With only eight main roads, the residents of Jupiter Inlet Colony enjoy a comfortable existence, and enjoy the security of their own police department.
Due to the intricate waterways, the adjacent ocean, and the Loxahatchee River, early pioneers and residents relied on the water to make their living. Tourism later became the lifeblood of Jupiter Inlet Colony. Boating, water sports, and sport fishing continue to draw residents and vacationers to the area today.

Jupiter Island
Jupiter Island homes are the centerpiece of the single wealthiest community in the United States. Florida's Jupiter Island is the third and southern of a triad of Barrier Islands located off the border of Martin County's Treasure Coast, directly north of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County. The 17 mile long, famed exclusive island's reputation for wealth was established in 1715 with an unexpected encounter with wealth when the Spanish Plata Fleet suffered shipwreck and complete loss of its cargo of silver and gold coins destined for the Spanish treasury. Modern day treasure seekers may still find pieces of the Spanish treasure washed up and buried just below the surface of beach sand there.
Of far greater value are the present day homes in Jupiter Island; made so by the wealthy and famous from Greg Norman to Tiger Woods, who established the top price range of $40M that he paid for his estate in 2006.
Jupiter Island's first recorded history was as part of the Gomez Grant. This was a land grant from the King of Spain to Eusebio Gomez in 1815, as a reward for faithful service and includes not only Jupiter Island but almost all of what is now mainland Hobe Sound.
The land was divided and redivided among the Gomez heirs and others and much of it was sold in the early 1900s to a British land development company that went bankrupt in the late 1920s. The extensive land holdings of the corporation were acquired by a group of friends who enjoyed staying at a small Island hotel with the idea of conserving the natural beauty of the Island and this has been the aim of the original owners, their heirs, and others who have purchased land and built homes here. In fact, much of the Island has been given to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy for wildlife refuges and preservation of the natural ecology.
Jupiter Island was incorporated as a town in 1953 and enacted strict low density zoning which has preserved its natural beauty probably better than any other populated barrier island in existence. One and two-acre zoning is the norm for single family residential homes and no high rises or multiple family dwellings are allowed. The town has its own government, including mayor, commissioners, a fire department, and a police force with probably the highest ratio of police to residents in the United States. There are currently 468 homes on Jupiter Island.

Loxahatchee River
The Loxahatchee River is a beautiful peaceful place to call home. Islands of Jupiter, Tequesta Country Club, Turtle Creek, and River Ridge are just a few of the communities that offer Loxahatchee Riverfront living.
The Loxahatchee River Watershed has a wide variety of habitats and is home to many rare and endangered species, such as the manatee and woodstork. This 260 square mile ecosystem includes the communities of Jupiter, Tequesta, Juno Beach, Jupiter Island, Jupiter Inlet Colony, Jupiter Farms, Hobe Sound and Palm Beach Gardens.
One of Florida's most unique treasures, the Loxahatchee River meanders through freshwater creeks, down into a brackish estuary, and finally empties through the Jupiter Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean. Journey back in time as you boat, canoe, or hike this Wild and Scenic River, and discover this gem for yourself.
- 10 major freshwater and saltwater habitats provide homes for a wide variety of wildlife.
- It is a peaceful, slow flowing river.
- Federally designated as a "Wild and Scenic River" in 1985. There are only two Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida.
- Large amounts of natural areas are still intact and publicly owned. Nine miles of the Loxahatchee River, including the Wild and Scenic portion, flow through Riverbend Park (west on Indiantown Road) and Jonathan Dickinson State Park (U.S. Highway 1 - South of Hobe Sound).

North Palm Beach
Full scale development and incorporation as a village occurred nearly simultaneously in 1956, with extensive dredging creating waterfront cul-de-sacs, and the development of a new east-west artery, Lighthouse Drive, connecting Old Dixie Highway and the newly aligned US 1. US 1 was widened and became the main office and civic corridor. Sir Harry Oakes' castle-like home on US 1 became the clubhouse for the village golf course.
In 1958-1959, North Palm Beach elected Walter E. Thomas, Jr. as its first Mayor. Walter and his wife Jackie and four children (Ted, Larry, Jim, and Pam) were the 55th family to move into the Village, arriving in 1957.
Lake Park West Road was also extended from Old Dixie Highway to US-1 and was renamed Northlake Boulevard, becoming the village's main commercial corridor. Twin City Mall, an enclosed shopping center, opened in 1970 at the corner of Northlake Boulevard and US-1 as Palm Beach County's second enclosed shopping mall. This Mall built onto the previous grocery store/strip mall completed in 1959. The mall contained a Sears, Jeffersons and GC Murphy's department stores, as well as the locally popular Karmelcorn and Orange Bowl eateries. The mall also sported one of the few movie theaters in the vicinity. The enclosed mall was demolished in the mid-1990s and has gradually been replaced by a mid-sized strip mall anchored by Publix. The village has maintained relative prosperity due to the many waterfront homes with Atlantic Ocean access as well as the overall jump in development in northern Palm Beach County in the last 10 years.
In 2006, village resident Jack Nicklaus redesigned the town's golf course and it reopened in late 2006 to rave reviews. Nicklaus charged the Village of North Palm Beach $1 for his services.

Palm Beach Gardens Homes
Prior to development, the land that became Palm Beach Gardens was primarily cattle ranches and pine forests, as well as swampland further west. In 1959, wealthy landowner and insurance magnate John D. MacArthur announced plans to develop 4,000 acres (16 km²) and build homes for 55,000 people. He chose the name Palm Beach Gardens after his initial choice, Palm Beach City, was denied by the Florida Legislature, because of the similarity of the name to the nearby Palm Beach. MacArthur planned to build a “garden city” so he altered the name slightly. The city was incorporated as a “paper town” (meaning that it existed only on paper) in 1959. The 1960 Census recorded that the city officially had a population of one, apparently a squatter whom MacArthur had allowed to stay on his property.
Rapid development took place in the 1960s. By 1970 the city had a population approaching 7,000 people. To showcase his new community, MacArthur purchased an 80-year-old banyan tree located in nearby Lake Park, that was to be cut down to enlarge a dentist’s office. It cost $30,000 and 1008 hours of manpower to move it. A second banyan was moved the following year. While moving the first banyan tree over the Florida East Coast Railway, the massive tree shifted and disconnected the Western Union telephone and telegraph lines running adjacent to the railroad, cutting off most communications between Miami, 80 miles to the south, and the outside world until the damage could be repaired. These trees still remain at the center of MacArthur Boulevard near Northlake Boulevard and are still featured on the city shield. In January 2007, the great-grandson of impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alexandre Renoir, presented a painting to the city which depicts the Gardens banyan tree. It is currently on display at the city hall on North Military Trail.
City growth was slow but steady throughout the 1970s and 1980s, as the population has still not reached the predicted 55,000 people envisioned by MacArthur. However, the opening of the 1.3-million-square foot Gardens Mall in 1988 initiated a new wave of development, as did the sell off in 1999 of approximately 5,000 acres (20 km²) in the city by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Development of this property happened quickly and led to much new growth in the city. The city adopted an Art In Public Places ordinance in 1989 and has amassed an eclectic collection of works.[4]
The city suffered much damage to its tropical landscaping in the hard freezes of 1985 and 1989, but has experienced no freezing temperatures since then. The city was hit by Hurricane Frances, Hurricane Jeanne, and Hurricane Wilma in 2004 and 2005. Much of the city lost power for days at a time after each storm, and many traffic signals and directional signs in the city were destroyed. Many homes and businesses were severely damaged during the first two storms and contractors and construction materials were at a premium. Hundreds of homes were only nearing final repair when Hurricane Wilma hit the following year damaging or destroying many of those completed or ongoing repairs.
The Professional Golfers’ Association of America has its headquarters in the city. There are 12 golf courses within the city limits, including a course owned by the municipality. Several PGA tournaments have been hosted in Palm Beach Gardens since 1971. The Honda Classic has been held at the PGA National Resort and Spa since 2007 and was held at the Country Club at Mirasol from 2003 to 2006; both are located in Palm Beach Gardens. Ameribank and Wackenhut also have their headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens. The Gardens Mall, PGA Commons, Legacy Place, and Downtown at the Gardens [5] are the center of the city’s retail market. The city has the first and one of only three Paul bakeries in the United States.
