If you’re into people watching, the streets are filled with both the young and the old, dressing from Florida casual to a night out on the town. The diversity of age in the downtown area is remarkable, with the old folks eating before 6:30pm and the younger crowd starting at 8:00pm and later.
Delray has very diverse real estate. Sensational golf communities with homes upwards of $5m, oceanfront homes in excess of $20m, and condos for as little as $150,000. Populated originally by a snowbirds who migrated south from New York City, Brooklyn, New Jersey and Philadelphia, there are more bagel shops and delis per square foot than anywhere in the world.
Often the funniest place to be in town is 12:30 any day in a deli sitting next to a table of six with hearing aids all shouting at one another. It is impossible not to eavesdrop, for you feel they are sitting at your table.
Delray Beach has festivals weekly, so if you are looking to wander the streets, you can attend the Arts & Crafts Festivals, the Wine & Cheese, Garlic, Children’s Gallery Walk, Art and Jazz on the Avenue 6 times per year, Wearable Art, Farmer’s Market, Flea Market Festival, Antiques, etc.
If you are looking for knockoffs, just whisper around and someone will direct you to a lady with $2000 purses for 10% or less. If you're visiting, take in the public beaches with their wonderful yellow coral sand and the shops along the beach.
